Care provider Job Description and Duties
General Description: Assist Client and family members with various tasks in the Client’s home.
Tasks fall into two basic categories:
Personal Care Services:
Bathing Skin care
Hair care Nail care (if appropriate)
Mouth care Shaving (electric only)
Dressing Feeding
Assistance with ambulation Assistance with exercise
Assistance with transfers Positioning
Bladder care Medication reminders*
*Medication reminder permitted ONLY when meds have been
preselected by client, family or nurse. This includes both
prescription and over-the-counter drugs. Care providers may
NOT take the meds out of the container.
Homemaking Services:
Shopping and errands for client
Food preparation—does not include meals for other family members
Light housekeeping—
Sweeping, mopping Vacuuming
Dusting, sanitizing Clean/defrost refrigerator
Washing dishes Laundry, ironing
Empty trash Clean bathroom & commode
Change bed linen Clean oven/stove
All cleaning and personal care supplies/equipment must be furnished by Client.
Disposal of items must be with Client’s approval.
Client must be present in the home during Care Provider visits.
There are some tasks that Care Providers are NOT permitted to perform:
No skilled nursing or skilled therapeutic activities
No money management tasks
No ‘fast food’ may be provided or purchased
No restaurant visits
No companionship
No pet care
No activity that requires ladders, step stools or climbing
No heavy housework, such as—
Move heavy furniture turn mattress
Shampoo carpets wash walls or ceiling
Clean garage painting
